Escambia County Supervisor of Elections David H. Stafford announces that University of West Florida student Abigail Megginson, has been awarded the Joe Oldmixon 2016 Florida State Association of Supervisors of Elections (FSASE) college scholarship. As the recipient, Abigail will receive the $1,200 scholarship awarded by FSASE which reviewed submissions from all 67 Florida counties.
The FSASE awards three scholarships to juniors or seniors attending an accredited Florida university or college, with a major in: political science, public or business administration, or journalism/mass communications.
One of the three FSASE scholarships was named in memory of Joe Oldmixon. Mr. Oldmixon was the Supervisor of Elections for Escambia County for 42 years. First elected in 1952, Mr. Oldmixon died in office in 1994.
Ms. Megginson has a 4.0 GPA while working on a dual major in Political Science and Journalism and a minor in Spanish. She graduated from high school and Pensacola State College with her Associates degree within a week of each other. While being dual enrolled, she was editor-in-chief of the Pensacola State College newspaper and graduated Suma Cum Laude.
Abigail is the fourth student from Escambia County to be awarded the FSASE scholarship. Other student recipients were selected in 2006, 2009 and 2010.
