Stafford Announces Local Student Awarded Joe Oldmixon Scholarship

Escambia County Supervisor of Elections David H. Stafford today presented University of West Florida student Briana Bellamy with the 2020 Joe Oldmixon college scholarship. Briana was awarded the $1,200 scholarship by the Florida Supervisors of Elections (FSE), which reviewed submissions from all 67 Florida counties.

FSE, the statewide association representing Florida’s 67 supervisors of elections, awarded four scholarships to juniors or seniors attending an accredited Florida university or college, with a major in: political science, public or business administration, or journalism/mass communications.

One of the four FSE scholarships was named in memory of Joe Oldmixon, who served as Escambia County Supervisor of Elections for 42 years. First elected in 1952, Mr. Oldmixon died in office in 1994.

Ms. Bellamy maintains a 3.89 GPA while pursuing a degree in Public Administration and dual minors in Air and Space Studies, and Entrepreneurial Leadership & Innovation. Briana is also enrolled in Air Force ROTC.

Briana is the fifth student from Escambia County to be awarded the FSE scholarship. Other student recipients were selected in 2006, 2009, 2010 and 2016.
