Recently, Governor Scott signed into law HB 185, which creates a public records exemption for the identification and location information of current or former active duty service members of the United States (U.S.) Armed Forces, their reserve components, or the National Guard who served after September 11, 2001. The exemption also includes their spouses and dependents. Individuals requesting this exemption for their voter registration information must submit a request form to the Supervisor of Elections. College Juniors and Seniors majoring in Political Science, Public or Business Administration, or Journalism/Mass Communications are encouraged to apply for the 2015 Florida State Association of Supervisors of Elections Scholarship. Three $1,200 scholarships will be awarded statewide. Application deadline is March 16.

A delegation from the Ukraine spent time learning about the elections process and participated in a mock election. A special thank you to the Gulf Coast Diplomacy Council. Voters who have not already requested an absentee ballot will begin receiving sample ballots in the mail this week. The sample ballot mailer will include a list of all the early voting locations, how to request an absentee ballot, and the voter’s polling location, in addition to the sample ballot itself. Voters are encouraged to bring their sample ballot with them to the polls.
